A
fistful of throttle, the rumble of pipes and the
power that comes with a twist of the wrist culminates
in the thrill of cruising on the open road—the

RIDE Skin Care, created by Debbie and Kirk Harr,
two Arizona-based, Harley riding, baby boomers,
keeps you looking as young as you feel. The Harrs
began to notice not just the toll the sport was
taking on their skin but how difficult it was to
find products suited to the biker’s lifestyle.
“We all know about sun damage and how important
it is to use a sunscreen. But how many of us think
about how painful it is to be on a bike with the
wind in your face and greasy, stinging sunscreen
dripping into your eyes? How many of us ride with
one eye painfully closed.”
Before RIDE entered the scene, it was impossible
to find products with the right ingredients and
proper consistency. Combine the stickiness of many
sunscreens with windburn and flying dust and you
get really gritty, dry and irritated skin. “I
was on a mission to find products that worked specifically
for the ride—before, during and after. But
they just didn’t exist. That’s why Kirk
and I are now in the skin care business,”
she explains. |
The
Harrs had two criteria for the products: the formulations
had to contain effective ingredients for both men
and women and the packages had to be the right size
to fit into T-bags. “Kirk and I do a lot of
long-distance rides and we run into all kinds of
weather conditions. We needed products with the
ability to withstand the extreme temperature changes
and also fit into a compact space.”
The couple canvassed other riders—among them,
high-producing Harley-Davidson dealers—for
over a year. “These product formulations are
based on our riding experience and the experiences
of riders we know. Bikers have very specific skin
care needs.” After extensive research, the
couple contracted a renowned skin care formulator
and RIDE Skin Care was born.
RIDE formulas are based on aloe, a natural moisturizer
and replenisher; green tea and chamomile, natural
soothers and anti-irritants; and vitamins E and
B5, which act as moisturizers and conditioners.
Avocado butter and jojoba oil provide additional
emolliency in three of the products. All the products
are ride-ready. Harr explains that this isn’t
just another catchy phrase. “Bikers need products
that work right away, without drying time. You want
to be able to get right on the bike and ride. These
products allow you to do that.”
